On the busy run up to Christmas, we caught up with our CEO Ian Flanagan on the road to bring you a Diary Update as we show you what Ian has been up to.
Sunday 2nd December 2018
From time to time I have to roll my sleeves up and do the doing so whilst travelling from Leeds up to our Scotland office I took the opportunity to deliver a spare RFM van to the office in Whitburn – A five hour journey in terrible conditions on a Sunday night arriving at 10.00pm – the week has definitely started!!
Monday 3rd December 2018
Into the office for 6.30am as our new Director, Douglas Smith, is starting in the Scottish office. Monday is the start of an intense two-day induction on all things RFM Group! Finish the day at 7.00pm and in need of a good night’s sleep.
Tuesday 4th December 2018
Back into the office for 6.30am on day two of Douglas’ induction.
Mark Johnston, our Operations Manager is getting married in a couple of weeks’ time so the management in Scotland decided to go into Glasgow for a few beers and a Curry to send him off into matrimony – a few pints in sunny Glasgow topped off with a curry at the world famous Akbars and then we’re home for 11.30pm.
Wednesday 5th December 2018
I’m up and off at 7.00am as I’m flying from Edinburgh to Stanstead today for a number of London based events.
Once in London, I take the opportunity to catch up on emails and work-related matters via my Microsoft Surface Pro before heading out to the Ceccino’s Restaurant at the NED Hotel to meet one of our partners Condeco Software – its busy, vibrant and very upmarket.
At 6.00pm, we head over to the world famous Gherkin for a three hour seminar on Condeco’s roadmap for 2019, supported by Microsoft’s brilliant presentation on Artificial Intelligence.
The event and presentation is first class and something I will be passing on to the rest of RFM Group in the coming weeks.
The event finishes at 9.30pm, so its back to my Covent Garden hotel for an early night and some much needed sleep.
Thursday 6th December 2018
Thursday morning allows me some leisure time and so whilst in London I decide to head to Oxford Circus and do some minor Christmas shopping [for those of you who know my wife know there is no such thing as minor!!], anyway a few quid lighter I then head for a meeting at Bishopsgate with the Director of WeWork.
Following that meeting and more Surface Pro work I head to Canary Wharf to meet the team from Symbility Solutions whom have invited me as their guest at the prestigious Insurance Times Awards.
Drinks start at 5.00pm and it’s a black suit bow tie evening – a quick photo and face time check with my wife to ensure the tie is looking good and I’m downstairs to meet the team for drinks.
Various key influencers are attending including Large Corporate Finance Institutions such as Direct Line and major retailers such as Tesco.
After a few warm up drinks we’re off to the Intercontinental 02 for a 6.30pm reception drink.
We take our seats at 8.00pm and on comes comedian Jimmy Carr to present the awards – absolutely brilliant, very crude and much wittier than I’ve seen on TV, he was an absolute star.
Mark Barrett my host from Symbility presents an award towards the end of the night.
A big shout out to the couple of winners of various awards whom we do business with:
A few more drinks and we’re home for 1.30am…and I’m now in need of some sleep!
Friday 7th December 2018
After breakfast and more work on the Surface Pro to catch up on all things RFM we’re on the train back to York arriving home at 6.00pm.
“Boy it’s good to be back home and get me slippers on”
That’s this week done and roll on next week!
We will bring you a regular diary update with Ian Flanagan on the road, so watch this space!
