RFM Group are delighted to announce the successful delivery of the refurbishment of Northern Gas Network’s (NGN) workforce hub in Washington, Newcastle.

Work commenced on site in December 2017 on the 14 week programme to transform the disused industrial unit into a workforce hub, comprising of a warehouse facility, workshop, offices, staff amenities and a training centre as part of a nationwide development plan by NGN.

As well as the broad scope of internal works, a large concrete slab extension of the existing service yard was constructed, and in addition to the original brief, a seven-metre sliding electric gate, barrier and palisade fencing were also installed.

The project was delivered in coalition with Wainwright & Co. Chartered SurveyorsAnderson Green Building Services Consultants and Adept Civil and Structural Consulting Engineers.

Despite the extreme weather conditions including The Beast from the East causing a delay with the laying of the external concrete slab and the additions to the original brief, the stringent project management on site meant that the job was still delivered on time.

Leigh Edmondson, Pre-Construction Director commented on the project,

“This was a great opportunity for RFM to demonstrate our dedicated project management on a project of this scale. Jobs in the winter months don’t come without their challenges and this winter definitely presented us with some of the most extreme conditions our workforce has dealt with in many years, so we’re elated that the final result is of such a high standard and that the client is so pleased with our project delivery. We look forward to strengthen our relationships with all involved for the future.”

RFM Group are continuing to deliver projects across the north of the UK, with the next refurbishment scheme underway at Arran House Student Accommodation in Edinburgh.
