When HBM DJJ Ltd formed in 1961 it was in response to the demand for a reliable and capable plastering contractor.

They grew to become the second largest plastering contractor in Scotland by 1974, through a forward-thinking vision, putting the customer at the centre everything they did and using leading technology to drive performance and efficiencies.

That vision still permeates through the entire RFM Group today, as we aim to deliver exceptional customer experiences when delivering turnkey property services across the entire lifecycle of a building.

Starting in 1961

The RFM Group was founded in 1961 by Robert Frew, a plastering contractor in Scotland. The company grew quickly, and by 1974 it was the second-largest plastering contractor in Scotland. RFM’s success was due to its forward-thinking vision, which put the customer at the centre of everything it did and used leading technology to drive performance and efficiencies.

In 2003, RFM was born, moving into the facilities management (FM) sector. The company saw the potential for FM to help businesses improve their bottom line, and it quickly became a leader in the market. RFM’s FM services were based on its unique 4-stage connected services approach, which covers Consult, Build, Manage, and Maintain. This approach ensures that clients’ needs are met at every stage of the property lifecycle.

In the next two decades, RFM continued to grow and expand its services. The company acquired a number of other businesses, including Centric Office Solutions Ltd, a leading provider of office furniture and fit-out services. This acquisition gave RFM a full-lifecycle property offering, from design and construction to furniture and fit-out to maintenance and management.

Today, the RFM Group is a leading provider of FM and property services in the UK. The company employs over 1,000 people and has a turnover of over £100 million. RFM’s clients include some of the UK’s largest businesses, such as the BBC, Rolls-Royce, and the Ministry of Defence.
